A refit ensures trouble free sailing

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Oyster 53 now back at the Stella Maris Yachting Boatshed is taking every precaution to minimise problems once she is on her round the world rally, by having a complete refit at Stella Maris Yachting.

“There is no doubt that a refit will detect any problems, and replace tired equipment, giving trouble free sailing for many thousands of miles,” says SMY’s James Miller.

A recent example was Oyster 56 Raya which left Stella Maris Yachting in Southampton on a round the world trip in the spring of this year. The yacht, which has already extensively cruised the Mediterranean this summer, and crossed the Atlantic on the ARC in November.

“The owners have reported they want their yacht looked at in detail prior to embarking on the challenge of the Oyster Round the World Rally,” says James. “Quite simply, it is really important to get any yacht that is more than a few years old into the shed, before any major voyage.” Stella Maris Yachting has 2 Oyster yachts currently in refit being prepared for the 2017 Oyster Rally.

“It was interesting that the Raya team met quite  a few other boats that had maintenance problems, both in the Med and on the Atlantic crossing, so it goes to show that a full overhaul is really important before any big voyage.”
